NAVTEQ neemt PixelActive over

Overname versterkt leidinggevende positie van bedrijf op het gebied van 3D-kaarten

NAVTEQ, de toonaangevende leverancier van kaarten, verkeers- en locatiegegevens voor navigatie, locatiegebonden services en mobiele advertenties wereldwijd, heeft PixelActive overgenomen. De overname sluit aan bij de strategie van NAVTEQ om de verschuiving van 2D- naar 3D-kaarten te versnellen alsmede meer mogelijkheden te creëren voor het gebruik van 3D-technologieën in alle NAVTEQ-producten.

Met de overname van PixelActive Inc., een Californisch bedrijf met zestien medewerkers voor de sluiting van de overname, wordt de overstap van NAVTEQ naar een 3D-architectuur ondersteund. PixelActive is gespecialiseerd in tools en technologieën voor 3D-modellen van gedetailleerde wegennetwerken, gebouwen en terreinen. Het product Cityscape van het bedrijf is door NAVTEQ gebruikt bij de ontwikkeling van productaanbiedingen als 3D Junction Objects en 3D City Models. Met de overname van PixelActive wil NAVTEQ meer mogelijkheden creëren om producten efficiënt op te bouwen in een 3D-omgeving. Steve Rotenberg en Michael Kelley, de oprichters van PixelActive, blijven bij het bedrijf en behouden hun functie op de R&D-afdeling die deze activiteiten ondersteunt.

"Op basis van deze essentiële productarchitectuur kunnen we snel 3D-inhoud ontwikkelen en de leidinggevende rol van NAVTEQ in de industrie handhaven."

De voorwaarden van de overname worden niet bekendgemaakt.
