Boosey & Hawkes speeds up application tempo

music publisher improves application delivery performance and reduces costs with Citrix WANScaler

January 29, 2008

CHALFONT, January 29, 2008 – Boosey & Hawkes, the specialist classical music publisher, has selected Citrix WANScaler, a WAN optimisation tool, to accelerate application delivery to the company’s 75 remote workers in both of its branch offices. WANScaler, which is being implemented by Frontier Technology, will speed up network traffic so that users from New York and Berlin get the same experience of the company’s core applications as at the London headquarters. The increased productivity enabled by the technology is also set to reduce the company’s operational costs.

Boosey & Hawkes was already using a Citrix Presentation Server-based infrastructure to deliver applications to remote offices. However, network latency and fluctuating bandwidth levels between offices were causing dips in performance during Presentation Server sessions. “The key aim was to prevent the loss of user productivity as a result of poor application performance,” said Paul Vernon at Boosey & Hawkes.

Citrix WANscaler technology was selected to replace Boosey’s existing WAN acceleration equipment because it mitigates the effects of link latency. It also integrates seamlessly with Citrix Presentation Server, allowing for granular optimisation of the Citrix ICA protocol, and it provides extensive compression and acceleration technologies to increase the throughput of file transfer traffic.

Paul commented: “The introduction of WANscaler has all but eliminated our previous performance issues between offices. It enables users in remote offices to use applications based in London at near LAN-like speeds.”

“Already, user productivity has risen and support desk calls have fallen, allowing our IT team to focus on new projects,” Paul continued. “In addition, using WANScaler will enable us to press on with our goal of centralising applications, ensuring reliable and timely application delivery, and reduction of operational costs.”

“We have an excellent relationship with Boosey & Hawkes, providing consultancy, advice and ongoing support in installing the Citrix product family,” said Rafael Khokhar, Technical Director at Frontier Technology. “Following an extensive proof of concept exercise, the performance issues were successfully eradicated and as a result, productivity is improving and helpdesk calls have already decreased.”
