Mobile working climbs to number one priority for local authorities

Consilium Technologies doubles its mobile team to meet demand

August 01, 2007

Mobile working will dominate local authority IT priorities over the next year, according to Consilium Technologies. The mobile specialist is seeing huge demand from local authorities across the UK, enquiring about the best way to implement mobile technology into existing workflow practices.

In response, Consilium is expanding its TotalMobile team to help meet this demand. The sales and development teams will grow by up to ten people over the next 12 months. Consilium already provides mobile working solutions to many local authorities and housing associations in the UK via its TotalMobile solution. TotalMobile offers mobile applications on Windows Mobile devices, configured for each local authority.

"Local authorities have now seen the benefits of mobile pilot schemes which trailblazing authorities have run successfully, and now want a piece of the action,” said Gareth Tolerton, Chief Technology Officer at Consilium. “The initial schemes have illustrated that it’s not simply a case of buying mobile kit and expecting employees to adapt to a new way of working.”

“The projects that have been most successful are those which not only integrate a mobile solution to overall business improvement but also provide a positive and more productive experience for staff. Mobile technology needs a focused and dedicated approach, otherwise the kit will soon be buried in a desk somewhere, as staff return to what they know and feel comfortable with,” he added.
