Mobile working high on local government agenda government agenda

Consilium Technologies’ White Paper explores how technology will transform local authority working - August 21, 2007

Mobile working strategies are critical to the future delivery of public services, but only when applied as part of an overall transformation of existing working practices. This is according to Consilium Technologies, whose new White Paper, ‘Time to Move’ stresses mobile working strategies will be instrumental to the future development of local authority working practices.

UK councils are under increasing pressure to change and with central government widely tipped to introduce yet another wave of stringent efficiency targets over the next several years, local authorities across the country recognise that mobile working practices will be the difference between success and failure.

The White Paper has been launched to assess the business benefits that a mobile working strategy can deliver for local authorities, including more efficient workflows and empowering the workforce. According to the local government IT solutions specialist, technology is only one part of the jigsaw puzzle. Councils now have to consider how technology implementations have to complement changes in working practices to make working away from the office the most efficient way of delivering public services and engaging with citizens.

“Increasingly local governments are under pressure to do more with less and many are now realising the tangible benefits a mobile working strategy can offer,” said Gareth Tolerton, chief technology officer, Consilium Technologies. “If councils are to achieve these efficiency gains there has to be a process of engagement from the outset to ensure they have buy-in across the organisation.”
