£250m investment in new rolling stock for London Midland rail franchise

Dickinson Dees has advised Govia, the owner of the new London Midland rail franchise, in completing orders for almost £250m of new rolling stock.

The new trains are a key part of the major investment being made by Govia in the London Midland franchise. They will enable Govia to improve passengers’ travelling experience, by providing a comfortable and rapid service and continually improving upon the service’s punctuality and reliability. The modern trains will come on stream during 2009/2010. London Midland carries over 144,000 passengers daily.

The new train fleets include 37 ‘Desiro’ class 350 electric trains built by Siemens, and 27 ‘Turbostar’ class 172 diesel trains built by Bombardier. Both fleets have been financed by Porterbrook.

Dickinson Dees advised Govia on all legal matters concerning the London Midland rail franchise, including its successful bid in Summer 2007. The London Midland rail franchise combines the Silverlink County and part of the Central Trains franchises, and will run until September 2015.
