Sales trump sex in UK poll

~ bagging a bargain more important for a quarter of women ~

March 10, 2010

More than a quarter (26%) of women and over one in ten (11%) men would prefer shopping at the sales instead of sex, reveals www.everydaysale.co.uk [1].

Married couples (24%) or those in a long-term relationship (23% living as married) are the most likely to bag a bargain rather than bed down with their partner and the odds are significantly increased if there are two or more children in the household [2].

The online YouGov poll carried out for the voucher discount company questioned 2016 adults across Great Britain about their attitudes on sex and shopping. Nearly a quarter (24 per cent) of Welsh residents would rather race to their favourite sale if propositioned by their partner. Those in North and East England come in second at 21 per cent each, with only 17 per cent of Southerners choosing retail therapy over lovemaking.

Executive quote

“The fact that many Brits would rather get their hands on the best deals from their favourite shops than spend intimate time with a partner proves that we are a nation of shopaholics ” said Chris Wu, managing director at www.everydaysale.co.uk. “What a lot of people don’t realise however, is that retailers often have short-term offers and money-off top products online, meaning that you don’t have to wait for the sales to come around.”
