January 18, 2010

The High Street is the ladies’ favourite when it comes to shopping, says a survey by online discount site www.everydaysale.co.uk.

Some 47 per cent of women questioned in the survey of 1,065 UK shoppers opt to scour the streets for bargains whilst the majority of men, 64 per cent, prefer to stay at home to shop online or by mail order.

Men are almost twice as likely to squeeze in a quick shop with their sandwich with one in five making purchases in their lunch hour, compared to just one in ten women.

Overall, weekends are the most popular time for shopping whether on the high street or online with 48 per cent of women and 42 per cent of men waiting until the end of the working week to spend their money.

The most popular items bought online are clothes and fashion goods, with 43 per cent of men and women saying these were their most regular Internet purchases. This was closely followed by music and DVDs with 40 per cent of men and 30 per cent of women making regular purchases online.

Executive quote

“Our state of the nation research into the UK’s shopping habits shows men are the most efficient shoppers, not only in terms of time but also money,” said Bonn Chen, CEO for everydaysale.co.uk. “Women could be missing out on some of the bargains that can be had online which would make their money go a lot further.”
