UK staff: pull your SOX up
Organisations urged to understand European Sarbanes Oxley requirements before June 29 deadline
Staff who need training on European SOX compliance may struggle to find a seat before this summer’s deadline – and could end up costing their company dearly.
Accelerated Learning pioneer Firebrand Training has seen unprecedented demand for its Sarbanes-Oxley European SOX Certification (E-SOX) courses running before the June 29 deadline. The courses are being run in partnership with the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Institute.
Firebrand Training is urging those organisations that still haven’t started preparations for E-SOX to start planning now, or face damaging consequences for non-compliance.
An expanded version of the EU’s 8th Directive on Company Law comes into force on June 29 and effectively represents the European version of Sarbanes-Oxley regulations for corporate governance. Firebrand Training has seen phenomenal demand for its five-day immersive course, which provides a full understanding of E-SOX in terms of governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) considerations for both business and technology issues.

Executive quote
“The 8th Directive deadline is fast approaching, but many organisations are still unaware of the changes E-SOX will bring to auditing and reporting practices,” said Rob Chapman, CEO, Firebrand Training. “It is critical to understand how to comply with the Directive cost-effectively, but also how to make it clear to staff why changes are being made to working processes.”
“E-SOX is clearly on the agenda for many companies – but for others, time is ticking away,” Chapman continued. “Thos who leave it too late could find themselves struggling to get the support they need before the Directive comes into force.”
Customer quote
“Corporate transparency is critical for good auditing practice, and the 8th Directive will ensure European businesses can provide essential information whenever it is required,” said Sanjay Anand, chair, SOX Institute. “E-SOX will establish a robust framework to help shape effective standards for compliance across the region.”
About the company
About Firebrand Training (www.firebrandtraining.co.uk)
Firebrand Training is challenging the way in which professional training is delivered.
Firebrand Training, formerly known as The Training Camp, has pioneered Accelerated Learning courses for busy IT professionals. The organisation’s innovative approach to course delivery has led to its status as the Institute of IT Training’s “IT Training Company of the Year” for the three years – something no other IT Training company has achieved.
Students are totally immersed in the subject matter, receiving an average of 12 hours intense tuition per day at a residential training site. Subject experts implement a range of teaching methodologies designed to fit with how we best understand and retain information during different periods in the day. Accelerated Learning is an attractive proposition for contractors, whose time commands very high premiums, and employers who need to minimise staff absence. Firebrand Training has an above average pass rate of 85% - confounding critics’ claims that Accelerated Learning fails to produce results.
Firebrand Training was founded by Robert Chapman and Stefano Capaldo in Summer 2001 as The Training Camp. Stefano was a former student in the US and rated the company’s approach so highly that he decided to launch a programme of courses in the UK. The organisation has since been recognised by Microsoft as a Gold Partner for Learning Solutions (MCPLS) and over 12,000 students have been trained in the UK to date. The success of the company enabled the management team to relaunch as Firebrand Training, which is focused on delivering training courses specifically designed for a European market.
Firebrand Training offers a range of courses covering all major vendors such as Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, Sun, and Novell, as well as specialist certifications in the areas of security, business intelligence, project and business process management.
