Thales UK’s Leicester facility receives FAA accreditation

January 31, 2007

Thales’ UK-based aerospace activities have received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct repairs on aircraft equipment at the UK Service Centre.

The repair station, based at Thales UK’s Aerospace site at Scudamore Road in Leicester, has received formal FAA certification for its maintenance process, allowing Thales UK to undertake and certify civil avionics repairs in the UK. Thales UK will now be able to grow activity in the UK service centre to better serve the needs of UK airlines and speed the process of equipment support.

Initially the facility will introduce the capability to repair the Thales product range on the Airbus 320. It will expand its capabilities to repair products for other aircraft thereafter.

Mark Barclay, Managing Director of Thales Aerospace Services Worldwide, commented: “The FAA accreditation is a key step forward in our strategy to fully support our customers worldwide. It will enable us to service aircraft here in the UK, rather than having to send products to our other centres around the world. With the Heathrow hub and 50 airlines being based in the UK, this will make an enormous difference in terms of our ability to service the air travel community. The team at Leicester has worked hard for this accreditation and we are very pleased with the FAA’s decision.”
