Zebra’s newest printer, the HC100, has been unveiled today for use with patient ID wristbands. The printer is available in the UK from June 2008 and directly supports Zebra’s patient safety initiative.

“The printer has been designed with hospital use in mind and is focused on making patient identification as effective as possible,” said Aileen McHugh, Vertical Marketing Manager for Healthcare at Zebra Technologies. The wristbands are also antimicrobial and have been proven to prevent the survival of micro-organisms, like MRSA, S. aureus, E. coli and P. aeruginosa, according to lab tests.

The printer has been developed to cope with demand for a safer way of identifying patients. Bar-coded wristbands provide a clear and accurate means of recoding key patient demographics. This ensures that throughout a patient’s stay in hospital they are correctly identified and treated.

“Having all this information in one place can radically reduce errors and using the printer has the added bonus of being a lot faster,” continued McHugh. “Patient safety is of the utmost importance and the HC100 printer and wristbands can help hospitals to achieve the latest National Patient Safety Agency guidelines. The printer is easy to operate – reducing the time for staff training. It is compatible with hospital IT systems and is straightforward and quick to link with existing IT infrastructure. The solution is flexible and Zebra plans to use it in the entertainment and hospitality industries in future.”
