Zebra helps make patient ID a priority

~ agreement with Tracline puts NHS hospitals on course to achieve government directive ~

February 29, 2008

Zebra Technologies has announced a partnership with Tracline, to help hospitals fulfil National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) directives.

Tracline, a specialist healthcare IT supplier, will use Zebra’s wristband printers, and QL label printers as part of a wider system to record basic patient ID by July ’08, in line with NPSA deadlines.

“The partnership with Tracline is a significant step forward for Zebra,” said Richard Murphy, business development manager at Zebra Technologies. “The company has five years’ experience providing mobile technology to the NHS, and both companies recognise the opportunity we have to help hospitals meet NPSA deadlines.”

Once printed and given to a patient, the bar-coded wristbands are scanned at the bedside using the Motion C5 device, and labels are printed for blood samples. The system is designed to keep better track of samples and patient data, and as a result improve both clinician productivity and patient safety in hospitals.

Tracline is one of the leading NHS Mobility specialists. The company is the UK distributor and leading reseller for the Motion C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant device – the first Wireless Tablet PC designed specifically for the Healthcare industry. The device is lightweight, robust and can be cleaned easily and hygienically, It includes a built in barcode scanner, camera and is RFID-enabled in line with future NPfIT requirements. Benefits include improved infection control and clinician productivity.

“As Government directives come into play, it will become vital to maintain accurate patient identification across the NHS. Mobile devices accessing bar-coded wristbands at the patient’s bedside can help achieve this,” said Andrew Elliott, Sales Director at Tracline. “Zebra’s printers are a great addition to our range of technology for hospitals, and we’re confident the partnership will deliver some great results across the healthcare sector,” continued Susan Cataldi, Tracline’s MCA Project Manager.
