Salesforce.com to surpass one million subscription milestone

~ on-demand pioneer and leader will reach major milestone as industry shifts to Software-as-a-Service ~ fueled by massive customer adoption and momentum for Force.com Platform-as-a-Service and Salesforce Software-as-a-Service Applications ~ more than 3,400 developers are already innovating with Visualforce User Interface-as-a-Service

December 05, 2007

Salesforce.com [NYSE: CRM], the market and technology leader in on-demand business services, today announced it will reach its next major milestone this month, surpassing one million paying subscribers on its award-winning service.

Salesforce.com will reach this milestone due to the industry momentum and customer adoption of the Force.com Platform and Salesforce CRM application suite, which has expanded from four to six applications with the addition of Salesforce Content and Salesforce Ideas. Additionally, there has been rapid adoption of the developer preview of Visualforce as more than 3,400 developers already have created almost 5,800 custom interfaces with the new User-Interface-as-a-Service component of the Force.com platform.

“Our strategy of delivering both the Force.com Platform-as-a-service and Salesforce core Software-as-a-Service has driven a remarkable shift in the industry over the last eight years,” said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO, salesforce.com. “It took seven years to reach the first 500,000 paying subscribers and only another 16 months for the second 500,000. That’s incredible global momentum and adoption for businesses of all sizes. For a million subscribers around the world, it’s truly The End of Software.”

Force.com and Salesforce Applications Deliver Customer Success
With now more than 38,100 customers and nearly 1 million subscribers, salesforce.com is driving success on demand for customers worldwide. Just as customers have adopted Salesforce first for SFA, and then the full suite of CRM applications, they are now adopting the Force.com platform to extend the benefits of on-demand applications throughout their entire enterprises.

The Force.com Platform-as-a-Service offers the most comprehensive set of capabilities for building any application on demand. Force.com Platform-as-a-Service provides the building blocks necessary to create and deploy any business application and lets companies and developers focus on what their applications do, rather than the software and infrastructure to run them. By replacing the complexity of software platforms with a complete, scalable service, Force.com provides developers the fastest path to turn ideas into business impact. The multi-tenant Force.com platform encompasses a complete feature set for the creation of business applications, including the ability to create any database on demand, a workflow engine for managing collaboration between users, the Apex Code programming language for building complex logic, the Force.com Web Services API for programmatic access, mash-ups, and integration with other applications and data, and Visualforce for a framework to build any user interface.
