Apptis Honored by the Department of State for Superior Service and Support During Passport Crunch of 2007

Chantilly, VA - May 19, 2008

Apptis, Inc., a leading IT services, communications and solutions provider to the federal marketplace, announced today that it has been recognized with Certificates of Appreciation from the U.S. State Department (DOS) for its work during the “Passport Crunch of 2007.” Former United States Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Maura Hardy, made the presentation to key members of Apptis’ DOS team at a ceremony sponsored by the Office of Consular Systems and Technology.

The “Passport Crunch of 2007” saw passport applications rise from about 12.5M per year to more than 18M in 2007, largely attributed to deadlines imposed by the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. This year, the Department expects passport demand to surge further.

Apptis and its staff were instrumental in supporting the Department during this time by introducing new processing capabilities, implementing new features to address the backlog, and providing additional support to meet the Department’s extended work hours. As a result, the Department was able to process the backlog aggressively to meet the September goal for return to normal processing set by Assistant Secretary Hardy.

Apptis also worked closely with the Department to deploy its Travel Document Issuance System (TDIS) to new facilities in the US and also to select Posts abroad. This software allowed the Department to use Foreign Service personnel around the world to help process passport applications. Apptis team members provided operations, deployment, and Tier 2 support for all of these activities.

The Passport Crunch initiative is part of Apptis’ DOS Maintenance and Support of Passport Systems five-year contract, awarded in September 2006 for $67 million USD.
