CloudShield Tackles Service Provider Bandwidth Pinch with P2P Control Solution
Enables carriers to detect and regulate traffic at network peering points
CloudShield Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of IP service control and security solutions, today launched the first P2P Control Solution for its CS-2000 multi-function content processing platform. The new solution will give carriers visibility into, and policy control of, P2P traffic transiting their network.
CloudShield’s CS-2000 is designed to inspect, analyze and control IP traffic content – including voice, video and data – at multi-gigabit rates from one compact scalable platform. The P2P Control Solution allows carriers to set traffic control actions, such as enforce quotas for bandwidth consumption, shape P2P traffic during business hours and deny certain P2P protocols altogether. With these controls in place, service providers can:
- Reduce operating costs by eliminating peering imbalance charges and reducing bulk transport expenses from their Tier-1 service providers.
- Improve customer satisfaction by making it easier for service providers to meet Service Level Agreements.
- Reduce capital expenditures by shaping P2P traffic, on an aggregate (such as by time of day) or protocol basis, to free up bandwidth for revenue-generating services.
With CloudShield’s P2P Control Solution, service providers can view comprehensive reports on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Customers can elect to view a variety of reports to best fit their needs, such as total bandwidth consumed by all P2P protocols, total bandwidth consumed per selected P2P protocols or top P2P selected protocols. Current protocols supported include: Gnutella, FastTrack, BitTorrent, eDonkey, MP2P, Direct Connect, Skype, WinMX, Share and Winny2p.
The P2P Control Solution takes advantage of CloudShield’s patented Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) capabilities by leveraging advanced packet processing functions. The multithreaded architecture and high scalability enables sophisticated policy-driven control of P2P traffic, including the application of different policies across different P2P protocols, all at wire speed up to 10 Gbps.
CloudShield’s CS-2000 content control platform and P2P Control Solution are available immediately. As customers continue to demand seamless access to converged IP services, CloudShield and its partners will roll out additional applications to meet these needs. CloudShield systems are currently deployed by some of the largest network service providers in North America, Europe and Asia.
Executive quote
“Research shows that as much as 60 percent of residentially generated Internet traffic is P2P. If carriers don’t monitor and balance traffic, they will eventually face dissatisfied customers as quality of service diminishes across other applications,” said Matt Jones, CEO of CloudShield. “Our CS-2000 with P2P Control Solution allows providers to regain control of what is happening on the network and deliver the services their customers are demanding.”
