Buddy Automotive Innovations Chooses Socket SoMo 650 Handheld Solution to Streamline Inventory Management for Automotive Recyclers

Joint mobile solution provides business critical information to automotive recyclers in real-time

NEWARK, Calif. - October 21, 2008

Socket Mobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, and Cardinal Tracking, a mobile technology reseller, today announced that Buddy Automotive Innovations (Buddy AI), an automotive software developer, selected the Socket SoMo® 650 handheld computer and CompactFlash Scan Card™ Series 5 as its standard mobile device to run its automotive inventory and bid management software solutions.

Working with Cardinal Tracking, Buddy AI’s robust software is loaded onto the Socket SoMo 650 and equipped with a Socket CF Scan Card. These specifically developed kits also include additional accessories that, when combined with the hardware and software set, help commercial users at automotive recycling yards increase their visibility into and manage the automotive inventory lifecycle.

With automotive recycling yards processing anywhere from 50 - 2,000 vehicles per month, taking inventory could be extremely time consuming.  Prior to using a mobile handheld solution, a 12-15-page worksheet was completed to gather information before the data could be entered into a computer and made available for access.  The Inventory Buddy solution has cut the time it takes to inventory a vehicle in half, and allows automotive recyclers access to real-time information on the more than 2.5 million unique parts that may be found within a salvage yard management system.

Executive quote

“With approximately 5,000 computerized salvage yards operating today, the automotive recycling industry generates revenues of over $10 billion annually in the US alone,” said Bob Zink, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Socket Mobile. “The Buddy AI solution facilitates effective business management while continuing to encourage environmental conservation through automotive recycling.”

Customer quote

“When an automotive recycler is looking at the valuation of a vehicle or its individual parts, it is important to have as much information as possible,” said Mike Lambert, co-owner of Buddy AI. “We’ve worked hard to find the right mobile device for our applications and working environment, and the SoMo 650 fits the bill in terms of its durability and feature set—and it comes at an affordable price point as well.”
